Description This coral forms large meandroid colonies, dome shaped and hemispherical, or fairly flat. Valleys are 15-25 mm wide and contain numerous centres. The coral is very sharp due to strong spines on the septa. The living coral has thick, fleshy tissue. (Sheppard, 1998 <308>)
Colonies are hemispherical to flat. Valleys are 20-25 mm in diameter, irregularly meandroid, becoming straight in flat colonies. Colour: a wide range of colours; valleys and walls are usually coloured differently. Abundance: very common and may be a dominant on upper reef slopes and fringing reefs. (Veron, 1986 <57>) [details]
Type locality "East Indies" (Veron, 1986). [details]
