Nomenclature The combination Pseudaxinella rosacea (Verrill, 1907) has been subject to taxonomic confusion. De Laubenfels (1949) proposed the new combination based on the specimen AMNH 494 which Alvarez et al. (1998) later synonymized with Ptilocaulis walpersi. However, De Laubenfels (1950) also designated another specimen (BMNH 1948.8.6.37) as the neotype of Axinella rosacea which Zea et al. (2016) synonymized with Dragmacidon reticulatum. Therefore, Axinella rosacea is considered a junior synonym of Dragmacidon reticulatum, while the combination of Pseudaxinella rosacea has been used for different species in historical records. [details]
