Spongia pennatula Lamarck is a Caulospongia (see a.o. Topsent, 1932). Ridley misinterpreted Lamarck's species and assigned it to Carteriospongia (as Carterispongia). This was adopted by Lendenfeld (1889) and Bergquist (1980), both as Phyllospongia. For the time being we assign Ridley 's specimens of Carteriospongia pennatula to his authorship, but technically, this species needs a new name. [details] | |||||||||||||
