Den Velvillie, hvormed mine for nogle Aar siden udgivne förste naturhistoriske Forsög ere blevne optagne, har bestemt mig til fremdeles at bekjendtgjöre mine Iagttagelser over de mærkelige eller nye Dyr, jeg har havt Leilighed at observere. Hvor ufuldkomne mine Bemærkninger ere, föler Ingen bedre end jeg selv, da deels min Embedsstilling hindrer mig fra et vedholdende Studium, deels mit afsondrede Opholdssted (da jeg boer henved 60 Mile fra et zoologisk Bibliothek) gjör mig det vanskeligt at fölge med og benytte de mangfoldige Opdagelser, der aarlig gjöres i Zoologiens vidtlöftige Gebeet. Nærværende Bidrag ere derfor næsten alene en blot Fremstilling af Kiendsgjerninger, og kunne som saadanne vistnok være til Nytte for Videnskaben; men de savne for en stor Deel Sammenligningens lærerige Belysning. Ved enhver Classe har jeg troet at burde forudskikke en kort Oversigt over de af mig ved den Bergenske Kyst fundne Arter og Forholdene ved deres Forekommen og Udbredelse, et lidet Bidrag til Söedyrenes geographiske Fordeling. Alle der anförte Dyr har jeg selv undersögt i Naturen, og Exemplarer af den störste Deel af dem ere opbevarede i min Samling
Iagttagelserne ere anstillede imellem den 60—61½º N. B. paa flere langt fra hverandre liggende Steder, nemlig 1) Bergens Fjord, en temmelig af Land indelukket Fjord; 2) Glæsvær, 3 norske Mile sydvest for Bergen tæt ved Havet, Grunden deromkring mest sandig og dyndet; 3) Solsvig, 1½ n. Miil vest for Bergen, steile i Havet styrtende Klipper , Bunden klippefuld; endelig 4) Floröen, 12 n. Mile nordlig for Bergen, meget udsat for Havets Indvirkuing.
Uagtet jeg just ikke er nogen Ynder af det moderne evindelige Slægtmagerie, saa har jeg dog i nærværende Værk været nödt til at danne flere nye Slægter, naat jeg fandt Dyr, som væsentlig afvege fra de tilforn bekjendte Former.
Ved godhedsfuld Understöttelse af det Kongl. Norske Videnskabers Selskab har jeg seet mig istand til at oplyse Beskrivelserne ved medfölgende Plancher.
