Description This species develops large 'fronds', growing into elegant vase shaped colonies. Fronds are unifacial, with no corallites on the underside (Sheppard, 1998).
Colonies are initially cup-shaped, developing broad, unifacial, upright to horizontal fronds, or becoming irreguarly contorted. Corallites are immersed to long and tubular, the latter being strongly appressed on upright fronds. Calices are 1.5-2.5 mm in diameter. Colour: usually uniform dark or greenish-brown, yellowish to grey. Abundance: common in a wide range of reef habitats. In deep water, colonies are flat with mostly immersed corallites (Veron, 1986). [details]
