Expertise

Shane Ahyong has been an editor and promoter of WoRMS for a number of years and is responsible for four groups of Crustacea: Anaspidacea, Stomatopoda, Lithodoidea, and Polychelida. He has a distinguished 25-year career as a crustacean taxonomist with over 300 published papers and book chapters, many of which are substantial revisions of groups such as mantis shrimps, squat lobsters and brachyuran crabs. He has interests in the biology of introduced species. He maintains strong local and international collaborations and is the supervisor of several post-graduate students. Shane was a co-editor of The Biology of Squat Lobsters (CSIRO Publishing, 2011), the winner of the 2012 Whitley Book Award. He was president of The Crustacean Society (2013–2014), is an editor Zootaxa, and serves on the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN). He is currently serving on the WoRMS Steering Committee.
