Description This species has calical structures which appear more solid than most other species of Alveopora. It is also the smallest, with calice diameters of 1 to 1.5 mm only. Septa are clearly alternating, with six first order septa extending almost to the central axis, and the second order septa being only a quarter of the calice radius. There is no columella. (Sheppard, 1998 <308>).
Colonies are flat undulating plates. Corallites are 1.2-1.7 mm in diameter, usually with regularly tapered septal spines. Polyps are short with knob-like tentacle tips. Colour: pale pinkish-brown to bright pink, sometimes with grey oral discs and tentacle tips. Abundance: rare, found only on protected fringing reefs. (Veron, 1986 <57>) [details]
