Description Family description (emended). Test with a simple, agglutinated, and smooth wall, and absence of endoskeletal structures; test conical in shape, trochospiral throughout, circular in cross-section as in Textulariella, with flattened apertural face, chambers broad, not inflated; aperture a wide horizontal slit at the base of the apertural face of the last chamber; the umbilical area is characterized by the presence of supplementary structures in umbilical to extra-umbilical position (Figs 3I, L, 4D, F, I, 5Z, AC) and may be subdivided by a small median lobe bordering a bilobate umbilical depression in Duotaxis (Fig. 3E–F, I, L), or represented by an irregularly developed tri- to tetralobate umbilical depression in Kristanita gen. nov. (Figs 4D, Q, 5D, P, W). The presence of the umbilical cavity confirms the attribution of this family to the order Ataxophragmiida (Mikhalevich 2003, 2004, 2013).

Note: Mikhalevich (2003) erected the new family Duotaxidae with type genus Duotaxis Kristan 1957 that she included in the subclass Ammodiscana Mikhalevich 1980,
class Spirillinata Mikhalevich 1992 (see Mikhalevich 2013).
(Falzoni et al. (2025)).
