Original description Endothyroid test with semi-evolute to evolute last whorls. Chambers globular, poorly sutured. Supplementary deposits as corner filling or crusts on the roof. Wall microgranular with luminotheca or only dispersed, clearer particles.
Occurrence: Late Tournaisian of Siberia; early-middle Viséan of Belgium (Conil and Lys, 1964); latest Viséan-Serpukhovian of Japan (re-interpreted age by D.V. according to the material of Fumio Kobayashi); Serpukhovian of Russia (Bashkorotostan). Pennsylvanian (probably cosmopolitan). Early Permian (up to the Artinskian of the Carnic Alps; Vachard and Krainer, unpubl. data).

Taxonomic remark The subfamilies Endospiroplectammininae Loeblich & Tappan, 1986, Endothyrinae Brady, 1884, Omphalotinae Vdovenko in Rauzer-Chernousova et al., 1996, Paraendothyrinae Lipina in Rauzer-Chernousova et al., 1996 and Planoendothyrinae Vachard, Krainer & Schönlaub, 2018 in the family Endothyridae have been set aside. The composition of each family is questionable and the beginning of their lineages in the latest Devonian and Tournaisian need to be reviewed.
