Spelling The spelling 'Thelepodinae' was only adopted in the 1980s, replacing 'Thelepinae'. See Thelepus for etymology, and Thelepinae for further explanation. Hothe (1976) wrote: Thelepodinae is "Nomen correctum for Thelepinae HESSLE, 1917, as the subfamily name should be formed from the stem -pod- and not directly from the nominative -pus.
