Description: Colour in life: colour dimorphism, disc uniformly bright orange or with radial shields white, dorsal arm surface orange near disc and then fading to white towards tips, arms ventrally off white, some arms dorsally pale throughout others purple with purple and white banded arms, purple bands wider (2-5 segments) than white bands (1-2 segments). Humphreys, 1981. Arm length to 2 cm, disc diameter 3-4 mm. Very small, and usually with 6 flexible arms. Colour variable depending on substrate, typically blue with white pattern or completely yellow. Habitat; often wrapped around gorgonians or soft corals on shallow reefs and deeper.
Also distributed in SE Arabia, Persian Gulf, W India, Pakistan, Maldive area, Ceylon, Bay of Bengal, East Indies, Philippine, China, south Japan and South Pacific Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995); India (Sastry, 1996).
General distribution: tropical, temperate, Indo-west-central Pacific Ocean, depth range 0-80 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995); Indo-Pacific (Richmond, 1998).
Ecology: benthic, inshore, continental shelf (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
