Description Colour in life: pinkish blue overall (Humphreys, 1981). Colour brown, more or less dark and uniform; two specimens are much lighter underside, one of them almost whitish (Tortonese, 1980).
General distribution: western Indian Ocean and from the Gulf of Bengala to Polynesia (Tortonese, 1980); throughout the Indian Ocean, Indonesia and Western Pacific Islands (Thandar, 1989); tropical, Indo-west Pacific Ocean, intertidal waters (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Also distributed in Maldive area, Bay of Bengal, East Indies, north Australia, China, south Japan and South Pacific Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore, suspension feeder (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
