Etymology Species named after Dr. Georg Hass (b. Vienna, Austria, January 19, 1905 - d. Jerusalem, Israel, September 13, 1981), an Austrian-born Israeli herpetologist, malacologist and paleontologist, who collected the type material of the new species: "a new species of Ariciid, which I have much pleasure in naming Scolaricia haasi, after its collector" (Monro, 1937: 82).
