Etymology [The genus name was derived from Greek εχίνος echinos, hedgehog, and from Greek deres, neck, a common suffix of cyclorhagid genera, and referred to the spiny scalids of the introvert which Dujardin (1851) regarded as neck; the suffix -derella represents the diminuitive of -deres and was introduced by Zelinka for eyeless species of Echinoderes.] [details]
