Habitat Marine, lagoons and estuaries, sand, coarse sand, muddy sand, from lower shore to 1 m depth. Very common species. It seems to be an important part of the diet of some species of seabirds, especially the herring gull Larus argentatus Pontoppidan, 1763  [details]
