Type species The type species of the genus Torrea Quatrefages, 1850 is referred to be Alciopa candida delle Chiaje, 1828 by authors such as Hartman (1959: 171), Day (1967: 186) or Fauchald (1977: 52), which is erroneous. The correct type species is Torrea vitrea Quatrefages, 1850, as stated in Støp-Bowitz (1948: 22; 1992: 37), having been designated by monotypy. [details]
