Status Type material could not be found in any major European institution and is considered lost. The type locality is unknown; not recorded. Vinogradov et al. (1982, 1996) list it as a synonym of B. crusculum but the description provided by Claus (1887) is insufficient to determine this species with any accuracy. Claus (1887) provides a poor illustration of a female with a very long peduncle for uropod one which is not typical of any species of Brachyscelus. In addition, it looks like the endopod of uropod three could be fused with the peduncle, characters both common to the genus Lycaea, hence the species name. However, in his description of this species Claus describes the carpus and propodus of the gnathopods as toothed which is characteristic of Brachyscelus. Thus, this species should be considered a nomen dubium. [details]
