A new genus of benthic foraminifera: Chablaisia n. gen, type species C. chablaisensis (Septfontaine, 1977) is described in the SW of Chablais (Hte-Savoie, France), above Mieussy/Sommant area, col de Chavanette section. This taxon is widespread in the Préalpes Médian Nappe, from the Arve valley to the lake of Thun. The stratigraphic interval is Bathonian to Callovian (Oxfordian ?). The taxon is belonging to Pfenderinids and is of great stratigraphical value all along the northern and the southern margins of the Tethys. It is particularly abundant in tidal dunes of Istria (Croatia), or in subtidal mud in France, Italy, Sardinia, Spain etc. A morphological model is proposed (fig. 2). The "keriothecal" wall as in "Valvulina" lugeoni (Septfontaine) is of particular interest, without relations with paleozoic taxa (convergence)
