Type locality Eschscholtz's material came from two Russian circum-global expeditions (1815-1818 and 1823 to 1826), but it is unclear from which of these the types of D. excentricus came, nor has their exact provenience been recorded. Eschscholtz (1831) stated: "An der Küste der Insel Unalaschka, am kamtschatischen Meere.", but the species was never again reported from Kamchatka. [details]
Type material According to Mooi (1997: p. 356-357) the type material of D. excentricus appears to be lost. [details]
