Etymology The specific epithet iatapiuna is given in tribute to expedition "Iatá-Piuna", during which the new species was collected, and meaning "Navigating in Deep and Dark Waters" in Tupi-Guarani, the first native Brazilian indigenous language. [details]
Habitat Inside whale bones and in the sediments around the whale carcass, in high abundance, at 4204 m. [details]
