Etymology The specific epithet solitarius, Latin adjective meaning 'solitary' or 'lonely', refers probably to the fact that "a single male specimen was taken" (Webster & Benedict, 1887: 722). [details]

Status The holotype was revised by Nygren (2004: 193), who considered the species to be a nomen dubium, stating: "Male stolon of Myrianida-type with single hair of tentacular cirri, and 3 chaetigers in region a. Could be the stolon to any of several Myrianida-taxa in the area." [details]
Type locality Eastport, Maine, USA, northwestern Atlantic Ocean (gazetteer estimate 44.903°, -66.984°). [details]
Type material Holotype a 5 mm long male stolon mounted in a slide, deposited at the National Museum of Natural History, USA (USNM 27551). [details]
