From editor or global species database
Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorAuthority Hartman catalogue (1959:597) gives the combination Serpula quinquecostata as an original name authored by Bosc (1802). This is incorrect - Bosc was recombining Daudin's name. Elsewhere Hartman (p.605) places Vermetus quinquecostatus Daudin (mollusca genus) as Placostegus quinquecostatus. These names refer to the same original record of a serpulid polychaete [details]

Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorClassification Daudin (1800) originally named the taxon in Vermetus (Mollusca), although he seemed aware it was a serpulid. Bosc copied the name (usage not a new record), recombined to Serpula, changing the suffix for gender agreement to '-costata' from the original '-costatus' [details]
