Etymology The species is dedicated to Dr. Enrique Rioja, "who described two species of Branchiosyllis from Mexico, and whose contributions to the knowledge of polychaetes in Mexican waters extends back nearly 40 years". [details]
Habitat Amongst sponges, algae, or Phragmatopoma spp. beds on hard substrates, at very shallow water. [details]
Type locality Mexico, Colima, Manzanillo, Escollera Norte, Marina Dorada (probably Hotel Marina Puerto Dorado) (provided geocoordinates 19º03'43.4"N, 104º10'13.5"W, seem to be misplaced, possible location lat. 19.061973º, long. -104.304145º). [details]
