Authority Vadet et al. (2010: p. 22) consider Pomel, 1869 rather than L. Agsssiz, 1838 as author of Gymnocidaris because it was first published without included species by L.Agassiz. According to current ICZN regulations, however, no nominal species need to be included in genus-group taxa established before 1931 and the nominal species that were first subsequently and expressly included in it are deemed to be the only originally included nominal species (ICZN 4th ed., Article 67.2.2). We thus consider L.Agassiz, 1838 as the correct authority for Gymnocidaris [details]
