Distribution Widespread in SE Australia, from Gladstone in the north, to Twofold Bay in the south. Two isolated records in SW Australia. [details]
Etymology The specific epithet akuna is derived from an Australian aboriginal word meaning 'flowing water', and is now used as a toponym for a place close to the type locality. [details]
Habitat On a variety of hard substrates, including cobble, but apparently restricted to the intertidal zone. Can occur in areas of reduced salinity. [details]
Type locality Coal & Candle Creek, Hawkesbury River, near Akuna Bay, New South Wales, Australia (about -33.643º, 151.238º), intertidal under stones in sandy mud. [details]
