Etymology Mörch does not give a derivation, but probably named after the hedgehog-like dense operculum spine array. Latin dictionary: Hystrix,-icis (s.f.III), abl. sg. hystrice: hedgehog, porcupine. [details]
Type locality New Zealand. Mörch does not give a locality beyond "Novam Zealandiam", presumably as on the label. Specimens examined were from the Cuming Museum [details]
