Four New Species of Hesionidae (Annelida, Polychaeta, Phyllodocida) from Eastern Pacific Chemosynthetic Habitats and Reinstatement of Vrijenhoekia. Diversity. 17(2: 121): 1-30., available online at https://www.mdpi.com/1424-2818/17/2/121 note: Re-validation of Vrijenhoekia from junior synonymy under Sirsoe removes eight species from Sirsoe. However, the authors add three new Sirsoe species. The treatment includes analysis of molecular data. [details]

Diagnosis Psamathinae with or without dorsally inserted median antenna, eyes absent, frontal tubercle and glandular lip pads absent. Notopodial hooks absent. Diagnosis emended by Kroesch & Rouse (2025: 11 of 30). See those authors for further background commentary. Their diagnosis for Vrijenhoekia is "Psamathinae with or without dorsally inserted median antenna, may be present as mediodorsal tubercle, eyes absent, frontal tubercle present, glandular lip pads absent or present. Notopodial hooks absent." Thus the main morphological differences relate to the frontal tubercle and lip pads. [details]
Editor's comment Vrijenhoekia was treated here as a synonym of Sirsoe based on Shimbukuro et al 2019. However, Georgieva et al (2023) subsequently erected a new Vrijenhoekia species and Kroesche & Rouse (2025), using additional molecular data, revalidated Vrijenhoekia. This required eight taxa becoming recombinations in Vrijenhoekia, and four taxa becoming revalidated in Vrijenhoekia. Kroesch & Rouse also created one new species in Vrijenhoekia, and three new species in Sirsoe. Altogether the re-validation of Vrijenhoekia required about 30 name changes in Sirsoe and Vrijenhoekia.
