Etymology Not stated by the author. The specific epithet laevis is a Latin adjective meaning 'light' (as opposite to 'heavy'), 'swift' or 'quick', and could refer either to morphological features of the species (like the expanded dorsal lobes of the atokous parapodia resembling wings) or to the behaviour of the specimens while alive (Kinberg was participating in the Eugenie Expedition, so he may have observed the specimens alive).
