Comparison General microstructural characteristics of genus Gillastraea corresponds to that of solitary Tropiphyllum Cuif, 1975, and thamnasterioid Cuifastraea Melnikova 1983, from which it differs in phaceloid growth form. [details]

Diagnosis Phaceloid. Corallites cylindrical. Increase intracalicular; corallites at early stages with diameter of about one-third of that of the adults. Septa numerous, thin, compact, made of vertical trabeculae. Menianes distributed alternately on septal sides; edges granulated. Columella rudimentary made of rare septal trabecular projections. Endotheca vesicular. Wall epithecal, pellicular. [details]
