Homonymy Preoccupied by Alebion Krøyer, 1863 (Crustacea). Desqueyroux-Faúndez & Van Soest, 1986: 7-8, explained the synonymy of Alebion Gray with Iophon Gray. Ridley (1881) as first revisor selected Alebion Gray as senior genus name for species currently accepted in genus Iophon. Subsequently, Ridley discovered the name Alebion was preoccupied by Kryer, 1863 (Crustacea) and selected Iophon as genus name (see Ridley & Dendy, 1886), ignoring the fact that Menyllus Gray, an additional synonym of Iophon had page priority. However, also Menyllus Gray turned out to be preoccupied by Menyllus Pascoe, 1864 (Coeloptera). Since then, Iophon has become the established name for the genus. [details]
