Synonymy This species was described by Bowerbank from Westport Bay, Ireland, approximate coordinates 53.81°N 9.9°W, depth 9 m (holotype BMNH 1910.1.195). Stephens (1912) examined type slides labeled with this name and found they contained a mix of two species, Myxilla rosacea and an unidentified species of Mycale. Despite this, the name remains available (ICZN art. 17.1). Since most of the spicules belong to Myxilla rosacea, Van Soest (2024: 68) proposed to reassign the compound specimen to Myxilla (Myxilla) rosacea (Lieberkühn, 1869). [details]
