The taxonomy of two new Demospongiae from the Great Barrier Reef of Australia is presented. Neofibularia irata n.sp. is an encrusting sponge and is an addition to a recently established genus which is notable for its toxic, dermatitis producing properties. Ircinia wistarii n.sp. is a large dish-shaped sponge found growing in an isolated strong current habitat.
