Homonymy The genus Toxochalina is currently considered to belong to Callyspongia as a subgenus (cf. Desqueyroux-Faúndez & Valentine, 2002: 844). The species name is a junior secondary homonym of Callyspongia (Callyspongia) multiformis (Von Lendenfeld, 1887 as Ceraochalina). Despite the fact that Callyspongia multifomis is considered a junior synonym of Callyspongia (Callyspongia) ramosa (Gray, 1847) by Hooper & Wiedenmayer, 1994: 98) (which is a junior syn. of Callyspongia (C.) nuda (Ridley, 1884), cf. Van Soest et al. 2020: 47) the name multiformis Pulitzer-Finali, 1986 is invalid and needs to be replaced (ICZN art. 59.1). Van Soest (2024: 47) proposed C. (T.) gustavoi named after Gustavo Pulitzer-Finali. [details]
