Authority Since publication of the echinoid volume of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology Leske, 1778 was considered the author of the class Echinoidea. Recent investigation by Stokes & Kroh (2022), however, showed, that Leske never used that term and that it was first used by Schumacher 1817, which should be considered the author of the class name Echinoidea according to their conclusions.
