Taxonomy As noted by Ohtsuka et al. (1987), Pontella surrecta is a valid species based on the female described by Wilson (1950). They state "Wilson (1950 misidentified the male he described as P. surrecta; an examination of the type specimens confirmed that this male should be referred to P. elephas (Brady, 1883)." [details]
