Nomenclature Brocchi cited (p. 663) the name Murex reticulatus first proposed by Renieri, 1804 in a work which is rejected by ICZN opinion 316, as a synonym of his own Murex echinatus. The name was made available nomenclaturally because it was used as the valid name of a taxon by several subsequent authors (e.g. Reeve, 1843, pl, 15 fig. 122). It is not the same as Brocchi's own Murex reticulatus described on p. 435, which is an extinct species of Genota currently known as G. bonnanii Bellardi, 1877. Those names are anyway preoccupied by Murex reticulatus Pulteney, 1799. [details]
