Type locality New Zealand, with specimens from Dunedin and Wellington trawling fishing operations. Possibly off Wellington S coast is the type locality (fide Burreson) [details]Type specimen Although Richardson (1950) does not designate a type, Burreson (2020) found that a specimen at Te Papa, MNZ, registered as ZW221, and from Wellington, Cook Strait, no host recorded, was recorded as the holotype of P. benhami in the Te Papa documentation, This may or may not be correct as there were several original specimens. Burreson states that it is " labelled ‘Type’ in Richardson’s hand, but apparent post hoc labelling must be inferior to designation in print, and a type is not necessarily a holotype. [details]
