Taxonomy Genus & species erected for an entity believed more likely to have been described from a composite of two taxa. Never rediscovered (for comments see for example Rota and Carchini (1999). Moore writes "known only from a couple of fragmented specimens found in association with marine Oligochaeta on Cape Cod" and "For this worm the name of Chaetogordius canaliculatus is proposed. Its chief interest is that it somewhat bridges the gap between Polygordius and the Polychaeta and partially confirms the view expressed thirty years ago by Mcintosh that Polygordius finds its nearest polychaete relations in the Opheliidae." [details]
