Classification The author states in discussion: "The absence of pulsatile vesicles and the simple structure of the lacunar system of L. africana allows assignment of this species to the Platybdellinae" Thus Lizabdella is placed under Platybdellinae in WoRMS, although the author did not use that subfamily in the formal classification of the genus. However, the author later states that "The question of whether L. africana should be assigned to this group [the Platybdellinae] remains open because of the need for a phylogenetic analysis based on molecular data." [details]
