Laophontodes norvegicus George, 2018 was proposed for Sars' (1908: 270, pl. CLXXXVII) L. typicus Scott, T., 1894, but George (2018) did not fix the holotype for the new species, thus being unavailable. Lee & Huys (2019) made the species available by formally designating the holotype for the new species, Laophontodes georgei Lee & Huys, 2019.
