Taxonomy The specific name 'amphichlaena' represents transliterations, without alteration, of the Greek words ἀμφί (double-sided) and χλαῖνα (cloak, wrapper), and refers to the tube-shaped structure into which the animal can contract. 'amplichlaena' is therefore regarded as an incorrected original spelling, a lapsus calami, that must be corrected (ICZN Art.32.5.).
