Etymology Benham footnote "'Aotea' White cloud; the original name bestowed on New Zealand by the first Maori arrivals from overseas."
Status Erected for A. sulcaticeps, this genus was said by Orensanz (1990) to be a senior synonym of Lumbrineriopsis Orensanz 1973....

Status Erected for A. sulcaticeps, this genus was said by Orensanz (1990) to be a senior synonym of Lumbrineriopsis Orensanz 1973. He proposed however that Aotearia be declared invalid (p. 76) under the then article 23b. This was not correct, and regardless, the current code prevailing usage article (23.9.1) does not allow this. Spelling Spelling in WoRMS corrected [May 2015] from "Aeotearia" [data entry error] to Aotearia. [details]
