Status Simone (2024) restricted the name Abra longicallus to European fossils, and for the Recent Western Atlantic populations used the name A. americana, initially established by Verrill & Bush as a subspecies of A. longicallus. Simone did not discuss the status and identity of the Recent European populations. The name A. longicallus is tentatively conserved for these specimens, pending a more thorough re-evaluation of their relationship to the fossils. [details]
