Taxonomy Kinberg (1856: 385) created Antinoe for the following four new species from the Southern Hemisphere: Antinoe aequiseta, A waahli, A. pulchellus, and A. microps. Of those original names only Antinoe microps remains valid, with A. aequiseta said to be indeterminable, and A. waahli and A. pulchellus recombined to Harmothoe. Pettibone (1993) revised the genus and gives a diagnosis but does not explain what are the unique characters of Antinoe or compare it to related genera. It has 15 elytral pairs and elytra are smooth without marginal fringe or tubercles. Prostomium lacks cephalic peaks. [details]
