Etymology The specific epithet akares is an adjetive of Greek origin meaning 'tiny', 'minute' or 'short', and refers to the distinctly short abdomen with compacted segments. [details]
Habitat Amongst coral rubble, sandy mud with algae, and from the underside of stones and corals, at intertidal and subtidal depths. [details]
Type locality Australia, Queensland, Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island, reef flat at south end of Coconut Beach (14º41'42.120''S, 145º28'11.280''E). [details]
