Classification Grube (1862) doesn't present his subgenera names as we do now, but his 'multicornis' new name is interpreted as being in Serpula, using subgenus Pomatoceros. Grube writes 'S. crucigera' within a section on Pomatoceros , presumably meaning Serpula (Pomatoceros) crucigera. Later (Grube 1868) writes his earlier name as 'Serpula (Pomatoceros) multicornis' thus clarifying what he intended when first naming it. [details]
Status Spirobranchus multicornis, formerly treated as a synonym of S. tetraceros, is in Discussion revalidated by Kupriyanova et al (2022) for the Red Sea population of Spirobranchus cf. tetraceros (examined in Perry et al. (2017, 2018)). [details]
