Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet foliosa (masculine: foliosus) is a Latin adjective meaning 'leafy' or 'full of leaves', and presumably refers to the shape of the branchiae in the anterior region of the body, where they are large, broad, and foliaceous, being the main distinctive character of the species.
