Spelling The correct spelling is Nicon tahitanus. de León-González & Trovant (2013) misspell the name as 'tahitianus' [details]
Status According to Pettibone (1971:49) the holotype NRS 494 is too poor for an adequate description. "For the present, N. tahitanus should be considered indeterminable." Earlier Hartman (1948:59) reported the specimen had notopodial falcate hooks. This character would seemingly exclude N. tahitanus from Nicon. [details]From other sources
