Etymology Not stated. Most likely H. pacificus relates to the Pacific Ocean from which the serpulid came, and the name form is analogous to H. norvegicus [sic] with which the species is compared. However, Pacific Ocean comes from Spanish/Portuguese Mar Pacífico "peaceful sea" and in Latin pacificus -a -um is an adjective, thus H. pacifica would be the gender correct spelling [details]
Type locality Ship hull & pier, Long Beach, California, 14 June, 1942 at Velero station 1452-42, "City Yacht Anchorage, from bottom of tied-up boat and pier, at surface", approx 33.754, -118.216 (gazetteer for Port of Long Beach). Location fide Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Hartman gave only the station number, and that the sample was on a ship hull. [details]
