Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Kinberg (1867: 348): "Branchiae dorsuales nullae; pedes dorsuales 34 setis ciliatis: aliis obliquis, aliis arcuatis; uncini breves, in segmento septimo incipientes." [details]
Etymology Not stated. The name of the genus refers probably to Deioces, the first Median king, who ruled during the first half of the seventh century BC. [details]
Synonymy The genus has been regarded as a synonym of Polycirrus since at least Saint-Joseph 1894:235 or later Hessle 1917: 226, although it is not clear if these or most subsequent authors have examined the material of type species Polycirrus chilensis. However, Glasby & Hutchings (2014) examined and redescribed the type of P. chilensis, retaining it in Polycirrus. [details]
